A five year old boy identified as Abu James formerly of Sinnah town in koidu City kono District is reported to have died after allegedly falling into water well in the aforesaid community. The incident according to report occurred on the 4th of November 2023. The father of the deceased Aiah Fengai told our correspondent that his son together with his friends were playing around 7pm in their compound and mistakenly fell in the said water well very close their compound. “Immediately the friends of my son told me about his predicament, at once l went in the well and pulled him out, stating that by the time they came out of the water well his son was partially alive but later died on their way to the koidu Government hospital,”Aiah Fengai explained.
He further explained that prior to the incident they have cautioned the owner of water well in many occasions to close the said well but little or no effort was applied by him to close the water well. Sahr Baryama who according to reliable information is the owner of the water well in question was around the time the incident occurred, but when the matter was reported to him according to the deceased father Aiah Fengai Sahr Baryama only replied that he had warned every parent to stop their children from going around the said water well but couldn’t make any move from the time the incident occurred unto press time.
Meanwhile when contacted the town chief of Sinnah town chief Kamanda Mobe told A-Z that he only received the information in the evening hours of Saturday on that fateful day the boy drowned but due to health challenge he was unable to visit the scene of the crime but later sent his younger brother to confirm the information. He further explained that a month and some weeks ago he left a message to be delivered to Sahr Baryama the owner of the well to close it in as much as they are now no longer using the well. “I don’t know if the message was delivered to him as instructed or not, because I was unable to make follow up due to ill health,” chief Mobe stated.
Meanwhile efforts to contact the Sahr Baryama the owner of the well proved futile and the remains of the five years old boy Abu James have been laid to rest while police are investigating the matter.
