37 years old William Sawyer former Constable of the Sierra Leone Police made another appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown on a count of Unlawful Possession Of Kush contrary to section 8 (a) of the National Drugs control Act, 2008, Act No.10 of 2008.
According to the particulars of offence on Tuesday 22nd August 2023 at New Camp Grafton Village the Waterloo judicial district the western area in Freetown were found in possession of seventy two wraps of Kush weighing 125.5 grams, without lawful authority.
The charge was read and explained to the accused person on his first appearance, and no plea was made.
Delivering his Ruling, Magistrate Ngegba said that he is convinced that there was sufficient evidence for him to warrant a committal for the accused person.
Magistrate Mark Ngegba arrived at this conclusion at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No.1 on Friday 15th September 2023, after a Police Detective Sub-inspector A. Kamara, attached at Ross Road Police Station testified in court of the Preliminary Investigation (PI).
Kamara told the court that on Tuesday 22nd August this year, based on intelligent, he and other police officers boarded their police vehicle to patrol within Freetown.
On the same day, he said after they had reached Grafton, the team of police officers met the accused and that they formally introduced themselves to him.
After showing a search warrant to the accused person to search his house for narcotic substances “Kush” and Marijuana, during the search exercise, Kamara said they discovered 70KG of substance suspected to be the harmful substance, Kush.
The court learnt from Kamara that they also discovered three assorted substance with scissors, and an amount of One thousand three hundred and eighty-nine New Leones (Le 1, 389).
According to him, the search warrant was endured by the accused by signing it after which, they arrested him together with the exhibits and taken to the Ross Road Police Station.
Assistant Superintendent of police Delia Wellington prosecuted the matter.
