Just after the successful outcome of the June 24th 2023 Multi-tier elections which have been widely accepted as a very peaceful, credible, free, fair and participatory, has generated a heated debate among supporters of Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas Esq. and Hon. Dr. Sidi Mohamed Tunis as to who emerges as the Speaker of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone.
It is very well known that the last dissolved Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone was superintended by Hon. Dr. Abass Bundu as the Speaker, and Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas was his Lieutenant who served as the Deputy Speaker of the Fifth Parliament. Hon. Dr. Abass Bundu did his utmost best in magnificently sailing through the Fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone. However, popular demands are with the fervent anticipation for Hon. Dr. Abass Bundu to stay aloof from the Sixth Parliament so that he can rest in peace considering his age.
With the much anticipated farewell to Hon. Dr. Abass Bundu regarding the speakership position of the Sixth Parliament, the fittest of the two political bulldozers who have shown interest for the position of Speakership of the Sixth Parliament is no less a person but the Rt. Hon. Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas.
A good fighter in any boxing competition would have won the match long since before he even step into the ring. Thus, the real question as to who succeeds Hon. Dr. Abass Bundu could not be a better candidate than the most learned Lawyer and one of the country’s finest Member of Parliament Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas.
Thursday the 13th of July 2023 is the D-Day for the election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Sixth Parliament. Without any iota of doubt, the Thursday 13th July 2023 election is going to be a smooth ride for Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas. Hon. Thomas is well armored with the required parliamentary armories coupled with his academic dexterity to navigate the proceedings of the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone. Don’t fall for the malicious notion gallivanting on social media that because the President is from Bonthe District therefore, the Speaker should not come from the same District. As a matter of fact, there is no legal and moral impediment hindering the Presidency and the Speakership of Parliament to come from the same district.
What is more worrisome and dangerous is the concentration of power in a single person. There is an adage which says, absolute power corrupt absolutely. Hon. Sidi Mohamed Tunis heads the Regional ECOWAS Parliament as its Speaker which would definitely make him ham-fisted to run the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone effectively. Therefore, the only fittest for such position is the Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas who on countless occasion, served as Acting Speaker of the Fifth Parliament where critical legislations were enacted under his supervision.
