At least twenty business shops at the Gbense market in Koidu city Kono district have been broken into by unknown thieves and property worth millions of Leones carted away a few weeks ago. The chairman of the Sierra Leone Traders Union Kono branch Usman Fofanah confirmed to our correspondent
According to him, after the said breakages a formal report was made at the Tankoro police station in Koidu city which saw the invitation and later detention of the chief Executive officer of Business security unit Agency in Kono district Mohamed P. Sow including personnel from the Agency; because they were charged with the responsibility of providing security at the Gbense market where the twenty shops were broken into.
Meanwhile, as the police investigation into the matter continues Mr Fofanah has appreciated officials of the RSLAF, SLP and the ONS in the Kono district for their prompt intervention by providing tentative security at the Gbense market.
The reported breakages on the twenty shops have prompted so many raids by the SLP at grey crime areas which has seen the arrest of so many suspected thieves that are presently placed in police cells at the Tankoro police Divisional headquarters in Koidu City.
Critics of the security sector in the Kono district have described such alarming theft in the municipality of Koidu City as a security threat.
Shop owners at the Gbense market in a meeting with the chairman of Sierra Leone Traders Union Kono branch including a cross-section of his executives have condemned the services of the Business security unit Agency in the Kono district and therefore opted to be providing security for their shops as police are investigating the matter.
