The Local Unit Commander of the Harbour Police Division CSP Emmanuel S. Kpulun on 20th May 2023, at the Harbour Divisional Headquarters, held a consultative meeting with the various chairmen of the Zonal Policing Partnership Committee (ZPPC) and members of the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB) to map out strategies on how to peacefully police the soon to start campaign period.
In his opening statements, the LUC started by sympathizing with members of the Cline Town and Moyeba Communities for the disasters caused by the rains. He praised all the various members in attendance for their relentless efforts in ensuring that peace reigns within the entire Harbour Division. He, therefore, encouraged all members to put hands on deck for the soon-to-start campaign period of the general elections.
“Your contributions to the Force cannot be underestimated, and without your cooperation, our job will be very difficult”, the LUC emphasized.
Mr Melbourne Greene, the Regional LPPB General Secretary Freetown-East, thanked the LUC for recognizing the sacrifices of all CSVs, ZPPCs, and LPPB members even though they are not paid for it. He, therefore, pleaded that some of their hardworking CSVs be included in the police recruitment process, and also for some rain outfits to be provided for CSV, especially for night patrol and checkpoint duties. He further warned all members to be apolitical and avoid being biased but rather neutral in their duties.
Various zonal chairmen, CSV’s representatives, and LPPB members assured the LUC that they will hold subsequent meetings with community stakeholders and political party representatives in their various communities to map out a peace plan in concert with the campaign calendar.
The LUC concluded by also assuring Moyeba Community that police personnel will soon be posted at the newly constructed police post. He warned post and station commanders to handle CSVs with great care and respect for the sacrifices they are making daily. He finally thanked and urged all to work and make the forthcoming elections peaceful.
