Edward Borsordau Smith, the accused person appeared before the court on two counts charges of conspiracy to commit House Breaking and Larceny contrary to section 26 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916 on Wednesday, 17th May 2023 at the High Court in Freetown.
Reading the particulars of offence for count one, Edward Borsordau Smith on diverse days between the 21st July 2022 and 23rd July 2022 at Freetown in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone conspired with other persons unknown to commit housebreaking and larceny.
Also, the particulars of offence for count two made it clear that the accused person on 22nd July 2022 at Freetown in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone broke and entered the dwelling house of Anthony Sullay Lahai and carted away one HP Laptop Computer valued Five Thousand Leone (NLE 5000), a Techno Mobile Phone valued Three Thousand Four Thousand Leones (NLE 3,400), one Bluetooth Speaker valued Two Hundred Fifty Leones (NLE 250), one black leather wrist watch valued Three Hundred and Fifty Leones (NLE 350), a Conveyance and the sum of One Thousand Five Hundred Leones (NLE 1,500) all of the total value of Ten Thousand Five Hundred Leones (NLE 10,500) the property of Anthony Sullay Lahai.
During the court session, the accused was asked as to what prompted him to engage in such an offence. He said he did not know anything about the offence and that he was eventually arrested by the police when he was accused of another offence at the Fourah Bay College Hostel. He said he was a taxi driver and nothing else.
On the other hand, Defence Counsel Ibrahim Samba pleaded with the judge to temper justice with mercy on the accused that Edward Borsordau Smith pleaded for mercy.
Without wasting time on the matter, Justice Ivan Ansumana Sesay sentenced Edward Borsordau Smith to seven years imprisonment.
In an other matter, the same accused person Edward Borsordau Smith on 22nd July,2022 at Freetown in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone broke and entered the dwelling house of Daniel Jeffry Jeremy Sarma and stole therein one plasma television valued Three Thousand Five Hundred Leones (NLE 3,500), one standing fan valued Seven Hundred and Fifty Leones (NLE 750), one mattress valued Two Thousand Eight Hundred Leones (NLE 2,800), one Bluetooth valued Two Hundred and Twenty Leones (NLE 220), one Canon 18 Tecno mobile phone valued Two Thousand Six Hundred Leones (NLE 2,600), eight set of Lacoste t-shirts valued One Thousand Two Hundred Leones (NLE 1,200), four khaki trousers valued Seven Hundred and Fifty Leones (NLE 750), four pair of black shoes valued One Thousand Leones (NLE 1,000), three pair of brown shoes valued Seven Hundred and Fifty Leones (NLE 750), eleven bottles of assorted perfume valued One Thousand Six Hundred and Fifty Leones (NLE 1,650), one pen tab Quran valued Five Hundred and Fifty Leones (NLE 550) and Two Thousand Five Hundred Leones (NLE 2,500) all to the total value of Eight Eight Thousand Two Hundred and Seventy Leones (NKE 8,270) the property of Daniel Jeffry Jeremy Sarma.
The presiding judge Justice Ivan Ansumana Sesay passed a verdict on the two matters and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment.
