The Local Unit Commander of the Harbour Police Division CSP Emmanuel S. Kpulun, together with Operational and military personnel of the division, conducted a proactive visit on Thursday 11th May 2023 to the Bomeh Culvert Community and the Kanikay ‘San San Gron’ Community to fully ascertain the pending dangers posed along the waterway of the culvert.

It could be recalled that the downpour of rains on Wednesday 10th May 2023 caused a flooding disaster along Kanikay Community and the loss of lives at Bankole, Fourah Bay Community.

The LUC, therefore monitored the ongoing clearing of the waterway by two giant heavy-duty machines provided by Ahmed Gento Kamara (Freetown Mayoral aspirant) and also called for an urgent meeting with community stakeholders at the Regional Commander’s office.

During the meeting, both Madam Memunatu Mansaray ( Mammy Queen) and Foday Fofanah (Environmental Protection Agency) representative at Culvert Kanikay Community denied the allegations that they are involved in allocating portions of lands along the waterways for makeshifts constructions.

The Acting Regional Commander Freetown-East Dr. John M. Senesie therefore instructed for a statement to be obtained from the EPA representative and requested full cooperation from community stakeholders to ensure that the waterways are cleared and thereby avoid future flooding disasters.
