Detective Inspector Testifies in Lunsar Murder Matter

Detective Inspector Mohamed Kargbo attached at the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters in Freetown on the 25th March 2021, testified before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No.1 on a murder trial that occurred at Lunsar in the Northern province of Sierra Leone.

The witness said he recognized the accused, and that on Tuesday 16th February 2021 he was on duty, when a transferred case from Lunsar for the offence of murder was handed over to him for the continuation of the Investigation. He said the case file contained witnesses statements, two contemporaneous statements  from the accused person, abstract Police report, medical certificate of cause of death, one blue and white handle kitchen knife with blood stain, one old Techno Android mobile phone, old Techno phone and the accused Sheriff Kamara handed over to him.

He said registered the exhibits on the case and enquiry file.

The cause of death certificate tendered marked as exhibit A, including the statement of witnesses including the statement of the accused was tendered to form part of the Court records.

On Thursday 18th February 2021, himself and together with Detective Police Inspector Tamba Kasigbama visited the crime scene at Machama village. At the scene of crime photographs were taken and statements  from Hawa Sesay the complainant.

On Friday 19th February 2021, himself and Detective Paul Amara Makuie obtained additional voluntary caution statement from the accused and finally charged him.

The charge statement also tendered to form part of the Court records. Sheriff Kamara is charged with one count of murder contrary to law. According to the charge sheet, the accused Sheriff Kamara on Friday 5th 2021, at Machama village, Romende Chiefdom, Lunsar, murdered Mariama Kongaima. Accused was remanded and ASP Ibrahim Sheik Mansaray is prosecuting the matter.
