3 Granted Bail For Alleged Theft

21 years old Adama Bangura, thirty-two years old Mariama Kamara and thirty-two years old Aruna Kovei.made another appearance before Magistrate Peter Brima Gogra of Pademba road court No.6 in Freetown on two count charges to wit Conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to law and Larceny contrary to section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence on Friday 3rd March 2023 at the Wharf supermarket at #57 Samuel Lewis Road Aberdeen the western area in Freetown conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit Larceny.

 On count two at the same place and date the accused persons stole one cartoon five kilogram China rice, two cartoons noodles, and one cartoon Aux standing fan all to the total sum of six thousand four hundred Leones(6,400) Property of Inie Jia.

The charges were read and explained to the accused persons and they pleaded not guilty.

Deputy Superintendent of police Marie Sesay lead Prosecution witness number one Inie Jia a business man said he recognized the accused person who was working for him.

 He recalled on the above date he went to cassino around 5am at that time he was approached by the police officer at the checkpoint along Aberdeen.

 They gave him information where they showed him photos form their phone later he went to the said police check point where he identified his items at the police station where he identified them to be his own at the same time the accused persons was in custody of the police and he later made statement to the police at Aberdeen police station.

Counsel representing the accused persons A.A Mansaray cross examined the witness and he made application for Bail for and on behalf of all accused persons that they are Sierra Leoneans resident within this jurisdiction.

Counsel said they have credible sureties who are willing and ready to go into recognisance on their behalf and they will not interfere with prosecution witness or witnesses they’re not a flight risk nor will they jump bail.

He made his application pursuant to section 79 3 of the Criminal procedure Act No.32 of 1965.

Meanwhile Magistrate Gogra granted the accused persons bail in the sum of twenty million Leones with two sureties in like sum sureties to be resident in the western area.

 Sureties to produce valid identity card depicting his or her address in Freetown.

 One surety each to be employed and bail to be approved by the Bench.

The matter is adjourned to the 6th April 2023 for further hearing.
