Prince of Wales Senior Secondary School on 7th March 2023 defeated Ahmadiyya Senior School by three goals to one (3-2) in the Western Area Region as they are crowned Champion of this year’s inter-Secondary League competition.
Goals from Emmanuel Combay, Basiru, and David Fofonah the player in seven Jersey (7) help the Prince of Wales School to end the 31 years that await to lift the 2023 School Competition.
Ahmadiyya open the scoring in the 10 minutes of play in the first half and Prince of Wales get the equalizing in the 15 minutes of play to level terms, a few minutes later Ahmadiyya get another goal as they double them by (2-1) and the goal came through a poor defensive error from the Goal Keeper of Prince of Wales School then the match official sounded his whistle for the end of the first half.
After the first break, both Schools returned to the pitch of play with high optimism of winning the trophy, and both managers held their pea talks with their players, it bulk of the second half was an affair of the Prince of Wales as they get the equalizing goal in the winning goal as well as they won by three goals to two( 3-2).
In his Statement before the kick-Off, the Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nylenkeh while addressing the School going pupils he said the competition is about bringing national cohesion among Schools in the Country, and all School going pupils should see it as that and represent their various schools with Sportsmanship behaviour
The Minister Of Sports thanks the Minister of Education for making sure the competition became a reality, and also sends thanks to the Former team Manager of Leone Stars Christian Dauda for the kind gesture he did by donating the Trophies, Medals, match balls, and other prices to the Ministry.
“I must applaud all School going pupils for making it possible to come to support the Schools, noting there is no loser every School is a winner and that pupils need to put the best behaviour in finals.
The Minister of Education Dr. David Monia Sengeh said
” My message to the Students is we believe in you the School going pupils, the reason why we are here is we know that the only way you can develop this Country is through Sports and education talent, and while doing such you the pupils are representing your Halls, communities, and at the same time this country.
Wahid Sillah the head coach of Prince of Wales Senior Secondary School said the feeling after winning the Champions is difficult to explain, I was in tears because it has been (31) year’s this School last won this trophy, Noting that the School has been wishing for it all these years so winning at now is a big gift for the School, we played a difficult opponents Ahmadiyya Senior Secondary School the side that last defeated the same Prince of Wales, the trust I have in my boys proved something worth in lifting the Champions trophy.
Mohamed Sesay the head coach of Ahmadiyya Senior School said the Final is fine and my team played well and entertained the Fans who watch the match.” noting that there are three things involved in Sports which are winning, losing, and drawing,n,g, and end of the day you h to accept one and move on, my boys played outstanding one throughout the first half it only in the second half we lose the match due to change of game plan by my boys, adding that they played to expectations on all am impress with them.
There was the presentation of Trophies and medals to the two Schools’.
