Personal Assistant To Freetown Mayor Testifies In Obstruction Matter

The fourth defense witness on the matter between the state and former mayor of the Freetown City council Fatamata Kanyako, has been docked and narrated what a conversation between the mayor and her concerning what happened at Lungi International airport.

Lead in evidence by defence counsel Joesph Fitzgerald Kamara, the fourth defense witness who was the Personal Assistant to the Mayor up to 1st March 2023, recalled on 17th September 2022.

She said on that day the Mayor and Councilor Sheku Alhassan Turay were to travel to the US for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation summit, a trip she facilitated.

Through a WhatsApp forum for ease of communication amongst them, the witness said that on the said traveling date, the Mayor called her from the airport in Lungi in inform the organizers of the conference that Councilor Sheku Alhassan Turay had been arrested and he no longer make the trip where he was to perform a role on the sideline of the conference.

At the conclusion of her evidence, there was no cross examination. The matter was adjourned to 14th March 2023 for the defense to continue.
