Having served as Mayor of the Makeni City Council, Sunkari Kabba Kamara has vacated her seat calling on women to be confident and determined to explore where ever they find themselves.

She made this disclosure during the last Council seating when she finally left office following pressure from the Ministry of Local Government that she should vacate office ahead of the election. The outgoing Mayor said leaving office at this point was deeply heartfelt realizing that she was going to miss the staff of the Council whom she had worked with for the past ten years.

“We have been one family here in thick and thin”, she admonished, adding that some burden have been taken off her head at least.

She boasted that she is the first woman to rise to the level of Mayor in that part of the country where most women shy from going for top offices in the political landscape.

She said she broke the iron ceiling when she won her first election as some people were of the notion that she would not succeed over the men. She called on them to go for whatever position they wanted noting that they should explore and not relent.

She highlighted the lack of resources as one of her greatest challenges concerning the cleaning of the city. She said she took along the Chief Administrator, Councilors, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) on a study profusely tour in Bo where they were schooled by former Mayor Harold Tucker on how to go about the cleaning. She said it was after their Bo study visit that her Council started having accolades.

When asked what she is going to do be doing now that she has left office, she said she had taken some stress out of her head and that she needs to rest a while noting that she believes that God is in charge of her destiny.
