Having considered the present Member of Parliament for Constituency 111 as one politician that did not do much for his constituency, women supporting the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) have rallied their support for the former Head Woman of Rokel Village, Iyamede Beatrice Langly to go to parliament.
Mrs. Fatmata Jalloh. SLPP stakeholder in Deep Eye Water described the former Head Woman as a political giant who knows how to represent people. She said as Head Woman, Iyamede demonstrated high leadership quality organizing vulnerable women and youths in community driven projects. She said she had assisted a good number of widows to acquire micro credit loans to support their children.
“As a woman she knows what we wants and how to achieve success”, Fatmata said, adding that the party should try this woman not only because of the need for gender empowerment but also because she is a good mixer. She reiterated that Langly is a woman all the women can vote for from all walks of life.
Traders at Rokel Village informed this medium that they will vote for the party overwhelmingly to ensure that Madam Langly becomes their representative in Parliament come June 24. Abigael said the woman had worked for them before and there are tangible evidences of her stewardship as local representative of the village.
Political observers in the Western Rural District have opined that Madam Langly could be a good material for the SLPP contesting in opposition stronghold.
According to Madam Iyamede Langly, she was approached by residents of the rural district to stand for the position of Member of Parliament under the ruling party. She said the time is ripe for her to enter mainstream politics so on that she could help take development to the western rural villages which she said had been misrepresented before.
The seating MP, Hon. Vincent is backing down after serving one term as representative of the constituency. His greatest success was the construction of a market at Deep Eye Water but abandoned the Devil Hole Market project.
