After spending two years, four months in remand, 23-year-old Alusine Kamara, a fishmonger has finally been convicted and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by Justice Monfred Sesay presided at the Siaka Steven Street High Court, after he pleads guilty to the offense of robbery.
The convict made his final appearances before Justice Sesay on one count of robbery contrary to section 23(2) of the Larceny Act 1916.
It was alleged that the convict on the 22nd October 2020 at York in the Western Area robbed Hassan Kapri Dumbuya of his properties worth 5,016,000 old Leones.
Giving brief fact of the matter before the convict was sentenced, State prosecutor, Aruna Jalloh told the court that on the date in question the accused and his colleagues who were still on the run break and entered into the shop of the complainant and stole his goods.
He said on the course of the robbery the complainant was also assaulted and after the robbery the complainant sustained some injuries and he called for help, but by the time his neighbour arrived the accused has went away.
The state counsel further told the court that in the morning hours, the complainant reported the matter to the Waterloo police station and on the same day the complainant saw the accused at Tomba Warf with some of his goods.
When he raised alarm, the accused was immediately arrested and taken to Waterloo police station for investigations.
Lawyer Randy S. Bangura from Legal Aid Board made a plea of mitigation on behalf of the convict.
Justice Sesay said the accused pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him and didn’t waste the court time “I submit that the prosecution has proven it case beyond all reasonable doubt against the accused. I therefore hold the accused guilty as charged of the offense and sentenced him to five years imprisonment including the time spent in remand,” he ordered.
