The Chairman of the Pujehun District Council, Sheik Sowa has emphatically stated that under this leadership, the council has been rated to be hundred per cent free by the national anti-corruption strategy for the third and fourth quarters.
Speaking to A-Z Newspaper at Futa in Pejeh Chiefdom in Pujehun District, Mr. Sowa said that there are a lot of success stories to comment on under his leadership as he worked tremendously to bring development to Pujehun District.
He said, “lately I have received about 2.5 Million Euro from the European Union and that money was judiciously used for its intended purpose I want you to know that we have been rated as a corrupt free council in 2021 as 91% compliance to national anti-corruption strategy and in 2022 we increased the compliant rate to 100%.”
Mr. Sowa said, “we have been audited by the European Union and the Audit Service and have been getting unqualified public opinion because we have been using the funds judiciously.”
Responding to the concerns about the roads from Bandajuma to Pujehun, not up till now completed, Chairman Sowa said that, it is not the responsibility of the council to make trunks roads but the responsibility of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority, adding that they have been pushing for the SLRA to ensure the completion of the truck roads but not everything that we push that we get.
He maintained that it is the responsibility of the council to make coverts and looked into the feeder roads and as a council under his administration over 240 of the feeder roads works were done.
Mr. Sowa thanked the people of Pujehun District for bestowing their confidence and trust in him to serve them and he did not betray their confidence and trust.
“My advice to my colleague chairmen is that be careful with the way you use the money meant for development. Please judiciously use the funds. I am happy passing in the district with no accusation but praises from the people for the development of the district,” he said.
He disclosed he will leave the council for the new job given as he has been appointed as the Commissioner General of the Lands Commission.
