The creation of the Land Commission has been lauded by some civil society activists but called on the Commissioner General of the Land commission to do the needful by addressing land problems in the country.
Speaking to A-Z Newspaper in a telephone interview on Wednesday, some civil society activists said that the Minister of Lands, Dr. Turad Senesie should be commended to make a reasonable effort to ensure that under his leadership; systems have been put in place to address the acquisition of land in the country.
Sulaiman Kargbo a civil society Activists in Makeni said that the Ministry of Lands under the administration of Dr Senesie inherited a lot of land problems that have security implications but did his best to address some of them, adding that the establishment of the Land Commission has now a critical role to play to compliment the effort of the Minister of lands.
Susan Sam, another civil society activist in Kenema said “I thought the establishment of the commission was just a strategy by President Bio’s government to create more job opportunities for the SLPP supporters, but I have realized that that the land commission has a crucial role to play in bringing sanity within the acquisition of land.”
She continues that “I am sure the new law Act has provided us the women the opportunity to acquire land and I want to urge the land commission to ensure that they implement all that is entail in the land rights act.”
Reacting to some of the concerns, the Commissioner General of the Lands Commission, Sheik Sowa said that “I feel good about the appointment and it is an opportunity to serve the people of the country in another capacity and will make sure I will follow all that is enshrined in the act.”
