Some youths in Bo District identified themselves as Youths Against Kush have urged the police deployed at various checkpoints within the country to strengthen security to track down those involved in bringing ‘kush’ into the country for sale.

Speaking to A-Z Newspaper, the members of Youth Against Kush said the youths have been labeled to be involved in the uptake of kush drug and that they are mounting a robust campaign against the consumption of it, which according to them is harmful.

A member of the group, Salomi Yanka said that “we want our brothers and sisters involved in the consumption of harmful drugs to stop it and they are engaging places suspected to be hideouts for youths engage in consuming it.

She said as we are approaching the festive season we want to make sure that the police intensify or strengthen security at the checkpoints and other crossing points so that they can arrest those bent on bringing such harmful drugs into the country.

A resident of the district Thullah Brima said that “I know we have a hard-working Inspector General of Police who has backed up his words with action to provide adequate security in the country and when he was in Bo he put the youths under control who were allegedly involved in criminal behaviour.”

He further that “We want him now to bring to book those trading in Kush; People making the sale of Kush as their own business for survival. It is not good for the young generation and is destroying the future of the youths,” he said.

He also described the  President as hardworking and committed to empowering the youths, but if the youths are taking drugs that can make them not within the right frame of mind to contribute to nation-building his efforts will not be realized.

He noted that President Bio has taken the youths to be the precious minerals who can contribute to the development of the country, adding that “we are complimenting the effort of the government towards the empowerment of the youths in the country.”
