East End Lions Football Club on 19th December 2022 defeated Wusum Stars Football Club by a goal to nil to go top in the Sierra Leone Premier League.
The match started with a pace play and speed from the midfield an attacking threat from both ends and more defense-minded from the defenders.
Prince Barrie and Samuel Beko got two chances deep into the defence of Wusum Stars but failed to convert those to take the lead in the first half.
The good defensive work of Wusum Stars players in the first half pays off as they hold on to a goalless first half, although the host East End Lions enjoyed the bulk of the ball possession but failed to convert any of their chances to goal.
Francis Zappa Koroma the head coach of East End Lions Football Club said the win is vital for the team considering it their first match at the Government trade center and the Spirit his boys show against a difficult side like Wusum Stars Football Club. Noting that it is good that the team returned to maintain the winning run with 100% in the Premier League table.
He affirmed that though the team did not play good Football the match plan was to win at all costs which the players did and they now have to brace up for their next against Kamboi Eagles in Kenema over the weekend and the artificial will be of great advantage to them as a team because the players are more comfortable in playing in the artificial turf. He called on the fans to rally behind the team at all times and give their support always.
Abdul Rahman Turay, the head coach of Wusum Stars said his boys failed to follow their game plan which was why East End Lions capitalized on their weakness of the defense and scored the only goal in the match.
He confirmed that the team will bounce back in their home match when they returned to the Museum field, and their home match will be against Port Authority. Noting that the team missed their striker Alimamy Buya Kamara who is good in the air and scored at any time when he is in front of the goal, called on the supporters who traveled with the team to exercise patience so the team will get in their next home match.
At the Police Field in Kingtom Real Republicans lost to FC Johansen Football Club by a goal to nil, as the only goal of the match came in the 19th minute of the first half of play, and the goalscorer was Mohamed Daboh and was assisted by David Kamara, they hold on till the last whistle to get all three points.
At the Brima Attougia Mini Stadium, Freetown City Council Football lost to East End Tigers by a goal to nil the goal came in the second half of play, and the Yellow Submarine hold to get all three points.
At the Parade Grounds, Central Parade shares a (2-2) all-draw with Kamboi Eagles Football Club, which means the Eagles are yet to win since the start of the Sierra Leone Premier League, over the weekend they face their rivals East End Lions at home at the Kenema Townfield.
The Sierra Leone Premier League continues again on Thursday as Mighty Blackpool Football Club will host Real Republican at the Parade grounds at 4:15 pm Mighty Blackpool is going into this fixture after two draws in their two matches while Real Republican is yet to record a win in the Premier League.
