Two alleged armed robbers, Chernor Jalloh alias ‘Fullah Boy’ and Yomie Strasser King alias ‘Shakur’ were both remanded at the Male Correctional Centre for alleged robbery with aggravation after they were arraigned before Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens at the Siaka Steven Street High Court in Freetown.
Both men were brought to court on three counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, robbery with aggravation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 49 of the Offence against the Persons Act of 1861.
State prosecutor, Musa P Sesay alleges that the accused persons on Sunday 16th May 2022, at Hill Station in Freetown conspired with other persons unknown to commit a felony with aggravation. It further alleged that the accused persons attacked and robbed Mabinty Jalloh.
Jalloh was robbed of her mobile phone, and lady’s handbag which contained some money and other assorted materials, after such robbery, they assaulted the complainant in a manner thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.
Mabinty Jalloh, a businesswoman said, she recognized both accused in respect of the matter and could recall the date in question. She said while she was sleeping inside her room together with her husband, she saw a bright light penetrate her face and her husband was close by her.
Madam Jalloh said after some time he saw the accused persons with a knife and other weapons, adding that after she saw them, she woke up her husband and she went to the veranda where the 1st and 2nd accused followed her, and his husband was still inside the room with one unknown person.
She said at the veranda, both accused persons placed a knife on her chest and forehead and they started fighting when his husband came out and asked them what they want, adding that the accused persons requested money, she said that her husband was scared took them inside the room for them to collect the money.
The witness said while her husband was taken the accused persons went inside the room, fortunately, for her, she said she jumped out of the veranda and called for help, after raising the alarm she saw the accused persons jumping through the fence. She continued that after the accused persons escaped, their neighbours came to their aid and their husbands went to the Akon police station.
Mabinty Jalloh further explained that after the accused went away, she noticed that they went away with the total sum of NLe 39000, her handbag, and her husband’s dresses among other things, adding that in the morning hours, they saw some slippers out of the fence and police officers later visited the scene of the crime and took photos.
She said on 23rd May 2022 she was called to the station to identify the accused and she was able to identify the 2nd accused who confessed that it was the 1st accused who took away the money which led to the arrest of the 1st accused. She said after some days the 1st accused was arrested and the 1st accused told her that they were the people that robbed her.
The witness said she later made a statement to the police. After her testimony, she was cross-examined by Lawyer Abraham Kargbo.
However, Justice Stevens remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to Friday 4th November 2022 for the next witness to testify.
