The criminal investigations Department of the Tankoro Divisional headquarters in Koidu City, Kono District is investigation an alleged infanticide matter that reportedly took place at Bakundu Community in Koidu City, Kono District.
The information officer of the Tankoro Police divisional headquarters in Koidu City Komba Sorie confirmed the information in an interview with A-Z noting on Saturday 8th October, 2022 the Area Chief of Bakundu Community in Koidu City Tamba Charles reported at the police station that on his way home some women in his community told him that a newly born baby boy was discovered in a pit toilet.
Mr. Sorie noted that out of police investigations, the scene of crime was visited and the remains of the newly born baby were removed from the pit toilet and taken to the Koidu Government Hospital for postmortem examination. He said police inquires and investigations to ascertain the culprit of the alleged infanticide were pending.
Komba Sorie further expressed dismay over what he called the lack of community support in order to bring to book, the culprit of the said crime noting the sharing of vital information for police operations and investigations are of great importance to the Sierra Leone Police. However, the information officer Tankoro Police divisional headquarters thanked Chief Tamba Charles for supporting police investigation into the matter. Meanwhile after the postmodern examination at the Koidu Government Hospital Mortuary the remains of the newly born baby were handed over to the Bakundu Community headed by the Area Chief Tamba Charles for burial.
Conspiracy theories have maintained that the body might has been dumped in the said pit toilet by his unknown heartless mother living in another community or the Bakundu Community trying to compromise the crime because people cannot live with a pregnant woman who after given birth goes around without a baby or babies. Police investigation into the matter continues.
