Members of Civil Society Organizations (CSO) in Bo have registered their utter dissatisfaction over the unfair manner of rationing light in Bo.

The Chairperson of the Bo District Human Rights Committee, Jarrai Barrie told this medium that EDSA office in Bo is deviating from the instruction provided by the Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanjia Sesay.

The minister is quoted as saying that even though electricity supply can be rationed it must be seen to be done fairly to avoid complaints from consumers.

Ms. Barrie accused the EDSA office in Bo of making money for their personal pocket by favoring the few who are rich to get more hours of light.

She says this this is a violation of their human right.

She pointed out that it is the right of the people to have access to electricity supply as they are buying EDSA top up but they are not benefiting from what they are paying for.

Claude Sheriff who is the focal person for the Non-State Actors for service delivery in the district said that EDSA in Bo should go strictly by the instruction of the Minister of Energy.

“We want to see fairness in the distribution of the power that EDSA distributes to the people, as we want to see service delivered to the people of Bo and the country without any iota of corruption,” he cautioned.

The Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Distribution Supplying Authority (EDSA) in the South and Eastern Regions, Mohamed B. Sheriff confirmed that EDSA office in Bo is currently minimizing the distribution of light in the district. He said this is because one of their major machines that generate the power is not in good working order.

He assured the people of Bo that the issues surrounding the light will soon be addressed, pointing out that there is  rehabilitation of the  Bo and Kenema network to ensure that there is sustainability in the  power supply, which is what that the Minister of Energy wants to achieve across the country.

He challenged the suggestion of unfairness in power distribution, stressing that they want to satisfy the increasing customer base. Bo is said to have attained the region of sixteen thousand customers using electricity.
