In continuation of his voter registration sensitization drive, Kadiru Kaikai, over the weekend, held talks with Paramount Chiefs, traditional leaders and stakeholders in the Eastern Region, at a meeting held in Kenema.
Speaking at the meeting, Kadiru Kaikai said that the voter registration is an important event in the electoral cycle. He added that only those who are registered would be allowed to vote in the forthcoming elections. Kadiru Kaikai maintained that the love and support citizens have for President Bio would be materialized if they go out now to register and re-elect President Bio comes 2023.
He also encouraged young people at the age of 18, or will be 18 years before the election date of 24th June 2023, to go out in their numbers and register so that they can make an informed decision in 2023 by re-electing President Bio.
Kadiru Kaikai also admonished Paramount Chiefs that it is their responsibility as Paramount Chiefs to ensure that their subjects of voting age are registered to vote. He encouraged the Paramount Chiefs to go house to house in order to get people to register. He noted that the first phase of the registration period ends on Saturday and the second phase commenced on Monday 19th September 2022. “All those who have not registered should be encouraged to register in this second phase”.
Elaborating on the importance of the process, he disclosed that the voter Identity Cards that issued by ECSL is the one that would be used for voting in 2023. He also expressed that the voter identification cards would be also used by the holders to aces banks, access cash remitted from abroad, as well as serve as identity card until the country’s identity card is made available.
Despite not being a Presidential Nominees, Kadiru Kaikai, intimated that he is very passionate about maintaining good governance, and as such believes that the people should be empowered to make their own decision of who they want to lead them adding that, the only way they would be able to do so is by registering as a voter. All the Paramount Chiefs accepted his message with joy, and made known the challenges faced in getting people to come out and register.
