President Bio’s call for people to take the Covid-19 vaccine available in hospitals has not gone on deaf ears as Makenitonians, according to the Makeni City Council (MCC), are going for their jabs.
Osman Kamara, a resident of Makeni informed this medium that he has taken the vaccine after a long time of refusal. He said he feels better in his body after being jabbed.
“I can now go anywhere having my vaccination card, he boasted.
Mabinty Kamara disclosed that after she took her booster jab she started feeling healthy. “The vaccine is an appetizer, I am now stronger than before”, she said.
The Information, Education and Communications Officer of the MCC, Edward Kpukumu said the Council has engaged the populace, sensitizing them on the need to take the vaccine. He said about 70% of the population is being targeted so far, noting that both the political and administrative wings of the Council are on the vaccine sensitization drive in the city. According to him, several discussion programmes have been held on the radio to sensitize the general public about taking the vaccine. He said their staff has already taken their jabs.
While the Lead Risk Communication official of the District Health Medical Team (DHMT), Mohammed Conteh said the vaccination is gaining momentum, noting that the vaccination of people has increased public safety as the use of facemask is not visible compared to the days when the pandemic was tense.
Civil Society Organization (CSO) activist, Emelia Kamara Jengo said at some point, it was difficult for people to take the vaccine, pointing out that no major side effect has been recorded in the district. She called on the government to intensify sensitization so that the 75% target outlined by the President is achieved.
