A day training for Journalists on gender reporting organised by Inter News has ended in Makeni.
The objective of the training was for the targeted journalists to professionally report women and girls related issues especially the proper use of words when reporting on high profile dignitaries, as wrong and correct use of words have the potential of breaking and making people.
The training also underscored the inclusion of gender in the reportage of Journalists in order for women and girls to be heard.
Meanwhile, participants of the training pointed out that it is difficult to get women and girls on radio programs and newspaper publications in order to speak to issues affecting them.
They maintained that some of the problems responsible for women and girls shying away from the media cannot be unconnected with traditional, cultural and religious norms coupled with some ugly past experiences of some women and girls.
The training covered topics on how to break the aforementioned norms so that the women and girls also will be heard on important issues for the development of the country and themselves.
