Government Regional Hospital in Makeni district in the Northern region of the Sierra Leone is currently in need of more health care Specialist and service deliveries amidst increasing number of medical cases. This hospital serves as the general hub of the region, but lacks the necessary apparatus to work with.
According to the deputy Medical Superintended, Dr. Brima Sesay told this medium earlier this year that the hospital has come a long way, striving to move with the tide of time. Dr. Sesay continues that a lot has been done over the years in term of development. He established that the hospital now have an Eye Department annexed and also provisions for patient to be admitted.
He noted that special care for babies, Isolation and a Multi Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR_TB) unit is cases now available in the regional hospital.
Whereas, highlighting the challenges he said the hospital is in dial need of Specialist for the obstetric department, nurses, more cleaners, porters, security, and driver etc.
Dr. Sesay is calling on the Ministry of Health and the government to act swiftly by sending more specialist and other support staffs as they are in serious need.
Santigie K. Kanu the Human Resource Officer of the Hospital responded that the Staff gap analysis shows that, there is a huge gap from 2013. He said the gap came due to the death of someone, retirements, and other reasons that has resulted to shortage of staff.
