The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has on 18th March 2022 unveiled the newly appointed WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE BOARD (WPLB), who is charged with the responsibility to run the 2022-2023 Sierra Leone Women’s Premier League. The Board constitutes of 7 Members, headed by a seasoned media personality and Station Manager of Radio Democracy 98.1 FM, Mrs. Asmaa James.

Unveiling the board, SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima said the setting up of the Board is a fulfillment of his leadership’s promise to promote female football in the country and assured the Board of the FA’s unflinching support. Noting that members of the Board are drawn from” various walks of life”.
Also present at the unveiling ceremony were; Mr. Harold Nat-Johnson- Vice President 1, Allieu Badara Tarawallie- Vice President 2 and other Executive Committee Members, Mr. Brima Jalloh, Mr. Kweku Lisk, Mr. Mohamed S. Jalloh, Mrs. Ramatulai Kamara, and Mr. Prince Saquee.
On behalf of the Board, WPLB Chair Mrs. Asmaa James appreciated the work and support of the SLFA and promised to convincingly deliver on their mandates.
The Women’s Premier League is expected to commence in May 2022.
The board is charged with the mandate of organizing the first female Premier League in the new era of football, and there will be 12- team female premier league that will run for two rounds.
Before unveiling the board already they had a boost of Le 1.5 billion as support from the government of Sierra Leone and during the unveiling of the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association that there is another (1 billion from the Sierra Leone Football Association.
The Female domestic league has been missing for five years and that has affected the performance of female players in international competition.
It should be noted that the last two campaigns International competitions have been a nightmare for the Country’s female players who have been knockout from the Preliminary stages, but the recommencement of their league will serve as a big boost to the coaches ahead of the next International tournaments.
