Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, has on the 4th February, 2022 reiterated the commitment of President Julius Maada Bio to providing uninterrupted electricity for the cities of Bo and Kenema and assured the people that he would never rest until the assignment given to him by the President was accomplished.
Mr. Sesay was speaking at a ceremony where he was presenting to contractors twenty-two (22) containers of assorted electricity materials meant for the Bo-Kenema Network Rehabilitation and Expansion Project.
The Bo-Kenema Network Rehabilitation and Expansion Project is fundamentally designed to overhaul the existing obsolete or aged transmission and distribution infrastructure in the two cities and to take electricity to new or unsaved communities.
Alhaji Kanja Sesay said Bo and Kenema were now connected to the regional CLSG power interconnections, adding that a technical glitch along the line between Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia had occasioned a short stint of blackout in the two cities. He however assured that the fault had been corrected and that the normal supply of electricity had resumed.
He said a total overhaul of the transmission and distribution networks in Bo and Kenema was required if the two cities were to perfectly enjoy the CLSG electricity. He noted that it was with a view to achieving this that he was in Bo to deliver another consignment of 22 containers of assorted electricity materials.
The Minister of Energy informed the people that there were 1,000 steel poles, 70 transformers, and huge quantities of conductors and cables in the consignment, adding that 14 more consignments would arrive in due course.
He stressed the importance of completing the project within the stipulated timeframe and urged the contractors to ensure that the best was delivered.
Assistant Project Manager at SINOTEC,Izaz Ul Haq, assured that they would complete the project within the expected timeframe, noting that an estimated 102 containers would arrive for the entire project.
The energy sector reforms continue.
