Justice Binneh Kamara of the High Court has sentenced one Sahr Lamin to 3 years imprisonment for stealing into the national petroleum company.
The convict was charged with two count offences of House breaking and larceny contrary to section 26 of the larceny act 1916, and malicious damage contrary to section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act 1861.
The particulars of offence state that on the 13th April 2020 in Freetown the convict Sahr Lamin broke and entered into the National Petroleum company with intent and stole in there one brown leather swivel chair valued 5 Million Leones property of National Petroleum company.
In Count 2 he added that the convict maliciously damaged one double door valued at 3 million five hundred thousand Leones property of National Petroleum Company (NP).
The convicted have pleaded guilty, however, the prosecution counsel D Sawyer submitted that the bench should accept the plea and the convict accordingly as the nature of the offences which he is charged especially count one is felonies and serious.
In his plea mitigation, Counsel M.W Jalloh said that the convict is a young Sierra Leonean who could contribute immensely to the socio economic development of the country, adding that the convict did not waste the court time in proceedings.
He said the defense is quite aware that the offences are serious; he further submitted that it could also be an alternative of fine citing section 231 of the criminal procedure act of 1965. He implored the bench to have mercy upon his client.
Giving his judgement, having heard the submission of the prosecution and the plea mitigation of the defense counsel, Justice Binneh Kamara sentenced the convict to Three years imprisonment or pay a fine of 8 million five hundred thousand Leones to the state.
