Sierra Leonean ace musicians such as the Afrobeats King Emerson, king of new school artists Drizilik, best female dance hall artist Star Zee, folk singer Fantacee Wiz, Innocent, Rozzy Sokota, Peter A A Komba, a TikTok sensation and Mos B have been nominated in different categories in the second edition of the Global Music Awards Africa 2022.
The Global Music Awards Africa is an entertainment event that is organized by Smart Focus Media that seeks to showcase African talents, creativity, promote and award African entertainers for their hard-work and effort in entertainment industry.
The first edition of the Global Music Awards Africa was held virtually in Accra, Ghana last years due to the Covid-19 restrictions. Several musicians from across African lit the virtual show up from the comfort of their homes.
Sierra Leone’s Fantancee Wiz and Rozzy Sokota have been nominated in the category of Female Artiste of the year together with Nigeria’s Tems, Arya Star, Teni, Uganda’s Spice Diana, Winnie Nwage, Sheebah Karungi and Ghana’s Gyakie and S3fa.
Rozzy Sokota’s song titled ‘Silence’ featuring Ghanian’s Kuami Eugene and Emmerson’ Maela’ are also nominated in the Afrobeat Song of the year category.
Emmerson is the Sierra Leonean with the most nominations; as he is nominated in three different categories including Male Artiste of the year together with Drizilik and other male artistes in Africa such as Nigeria’s Chike, Buju, Mannywellz, Ghana’s Black Sherif, Fancy Gadam, Tanzania’s Mario amongst others.
He was also nominated as Afrobeat artist of the year together with Wizkid, Burna Boy, Ckay, Bella Shumurda, King Promise, to name a few.
Innocent Kuti and Mos B who are both Sierra Leonean Artistes based in France are nominated as songwriter of the year for their songs titled ‘God No Go Shame Us and Vaccinate’ respectively. Star Zee’s song ‘Na By Fos’ is nominated in the category of Dancehall Song of the Year; whilst Peter Komba who is the most followed TikToker in Sierra Leone with over two million followers is nominated in the category of event blogger of the year.
Many of the Sierra Leonean nominees are happy for the nomination as it is the first time in the history of the country’s entertainment industry to have international recognition and nominate multiple Sierra Leoneans for different awards.
