The head of Competitions at the Sierra Leone Football Association, Sorie Ibrahim Sesay has disclosed that Sierra Leone finds itself in one of the most difficult groups in the tournament simply because the group hosts the defending champion the desert foxes of Algeria who have won the Afcon twice in its history.
He said Sierra Leone is along with Ivory Coast who have also won the tournament two times and Equatorial Guinea who have been in the tournament for a record of three times. He added that the outsiders are still perplexed as to the way Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea qualified. He said the reasons why Sierra Leone is placed third in the log standing is because of the Alphabet order and in Football rules they placed team by the Alphabet letters and that explains why Sierra Leone is in the third position.
He Affirmed that Sierra Leone has a huge possibility in terms of qualifying for the tournament because a lot of football pundits did give not any prediction of Leone Stars chance or there was no belief that Sierra Leone will hold Algeria to a goalless draw and that sends a strong message to the World and that Sierra Leone can set surprised.
He sent strong message to the Leone Stars team that they should not be compliance with the result against Algeria, rather they need to make use of any changes against their next opponent on Sunday.
Mr. Sesay said if Sierra Leone gets a win against Ivory Coast then they are home and dry and whatever happens in the last match will be a bonus to the Leone Stars team and if the team end up getting four points they might end up being the second-place team or third best loser in the group.
