The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists has officially criticized and complained the cyber-attack on Asmaa James to the Sierra Leone Police Cyber Unit on Monday 13th December 2021 in relation to a video containing obscene language on social media by SL musician ‘’LAJ.’’
According to the press release, SLAJ said they are shocked by the content of the video directly targeting the personality of Asmaa James one of the hard working journalists and girl child advocates in Sierra Leone.
‘’The fact that it came from a musician whose is expected to be a positive role model in society, therefore, we totally condemn it in every form,’’ SLAJ said.
SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla said ‘‘this is not only an attack on one of our respected and outstanding female journalists; but also on our journalism profession and the women of this nation.’’
He noted that the society does not deserve this kind of uncouth behaviour. He said regrettably, SLAJ knows the hard-earned reputation of their colleague; of which that will not redeemed by any penalty that will be meted on the alleged perpetrator. ‘’We will not rest until justice is served,’’ he said.
He called on Sierra Leone Police to do their work in prevailing justice for Asmaa James.
SLAJ President Nasralla urged all media houses in the country to blacklist musician alias LAJ and ensure that he does not enjoy favourable coverage until he publicly apologises to Mrs Asmaa James and family as well as Women in Journalism.
