The Chief Trustee in the Sierra Leone Teachers Union, Hawa Kamanda has spoken tough against teachers in service in their schools under the influence of alcohol as it is against the Teachers Code of Conduct.
He made this statement in Bo shortly after the engagement of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and World Health Organizations (WHO) engagement with their partners on policies against the abuse or misuse of alcohol.
According to Madam Kamara, a teacher is a professional and that teachers code of conduct is against a teacher being under the influence of Alcohol and action will be taken against any teacher caught in that act.
This statement is coming at a time when the Deputy Director of Teacher Service Commission. Lansana Rogers has suspended a teacher in Pujehun, who was under the influence of alcohol and has gone viral on the social media.
The suspension of the teacher generated a heated debate with some comments in favor of the action of the Deputy Director of the Teaching Service Commission while others sharply criticized him for that action indicating that it was a hasty decision taken without verifying with a breathalyzer whether the teacher in question was indeed under the influence of Alcohol.
