Sport Journalist in court on alleged incitement against Government

27yrs old Mohamed Alie Conteh, a sport Journalist has on the 7th December, 2021 made his first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown on three court charges of incitement contrary to law, insulting conduct contrary to Section 3 (1) of the Public Order Act No.46 of 1965 and sending threatening representation contrary to section 3 (iii) of the public order Act No.46 of 1965

According to the particulars of offence on Wednesday 15th September 2021at Makeni in the Bombali judicial district the Northern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leone did use inciting words to the public to cause the breach of the peace against the Government of Sierra Leone and on count two at the same place did use insulting words against Abdul Rahman Sankoh and on count three the accused person did send threatening representation to Abdul Rahman Sankoh.

The charges were read to the accused person no plea taken.

Counsel representing the accused person, Komba Kanu Esq applied for bail for and on behalf of the accused person pursuant to section 79 sub Section (2) and (3) of the Criminal procedure Act No.32 of 1965, and said that  his client has been in detention for twenty one days.

He said he is a Sierra Leonean residing in the Northern Region and  has reliable sureties who are willing and ready to enter into his recognizance that he has a fixed abode the accused person is responsible and the offences before the court are bail able offence. 

However, Magistrate Keikura refused bail and adjourned the matter to the 13th December 2021 police constable 12090 Zainab Y. Bangura prosecuting the matter.
