A seven man delegation from the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (EC-SL) on Sunday 28th November, 2021 departed the shores of Sierra Leone to participate in a two week study tour on Information Communication and Technology and Data Management Systems with the Elections Commission of India (ECI)
The study tour is centred on Demarcation of Polling Station areas using Geographical Positioning System (GPS), Electoral Roll Management, and Customization of Information Communication Technology (ICT) solution for Voter Registration, Nomination process among others. It is expected that the study tour will help build the capacity of the Commission’s ICT infrastructure on election results management systems from the polling station level to the announcement of certified results. This in turn will reduce the time spent in the counting and collation of results and thereby fast track the announcement of election results in a timely manner.
The Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone has also benefitted from virtual Staff Capacity Building and Trainings from the ECI in the area of ICT and Data Management.
On the 28th September, 2021 the Commission paid courtesy call on the Indian High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, HE Rakesh Kumar Arora. Discussions during the meeting were centred on strengthening bilateral relations between the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone, the Indian High Commission and by extension the Electoral Commission of India through technical cooperation in the areas of ICT, Data Management, Capacity Building and experience sharing in the management of elections.
The Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone and the Elections Commission of India have also developed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will be signed by both Commissions in due course.
