The World Bank Group has produced a Pension Technical Note and validation session is taking place to validate the document in a virtual workshop from 2pm to 3pm. A-Z Newspaper has been invited to the virtual workshop.
The document looks at the adequacy of pension systems in African countries including Sierra Leone. This development, according to the World Bank group is of essence considering the fact that there is a projected aging population in the coming decades.
Based on a study, poverty levels among elderly persons in urban and rural settings have been assessed to determine whether immediate or universal institutionalized actions could be taken to respond to the problem.
The initiative also intends to probe what other countries have done or whether there are which might better address existing poverty among the elderly.
The virtual meeting will be sharing findings with Sierra Leonean stakeholders for recommendations.
