The National Elections Commission has described as misleading the European Union Mission opponents contained in a recent release on certain recommendations in the aftermath of 2018 elections. NEC has described the EU release as biased and disregarded a lot of positive things the commission has since implemented,

NEC insists that it is subject to section 35 2 of the 1991 constitution which supersedes what the EU Mission is saying. The Commissions that it has over the years embarked ion reforms to graduate to a level of consolidation for sustainability and this is evident in the conduct of fourteen credible bye elections and fifteen paramount chieftaincy elections under the new leadership.

NEC claims that several other observatories have including Africa Union, ECOWAS, Carter Center have been making recommendations following general elections in 2012 and 2018  that have been heeded.

Entrance legitimacy, competence and performance have characterized staff restructuring since 2005, NEC has stated.

NEC has cited Section 32 (11) Act no.  6 of 19 91 as the basis of its independence and that provision is clear on the fact that the commission is not subject to the control of  anybody. The commission insists that it remains focused and professional to protect its earned won reputation.

The Commission however acknowledges the cordial relationship that had existed with the European Union Sierra Leone.
