The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) Dr. David Moinina Sengeh’ s unannounced visit to the Government Municipal  Primary and Junior Secondary School at Kissy Dockyard in the East end of Freetown, recently, has been described as being impressive by the Principal.

Mrs Mariatu Mansaray, in an exclusive interview with A-Z newspaper, expressed her appreciation over the visit of Dr. Sengeh and his team of monitors. She revealed that she was not surprised at all that the studious and hardworking Minister would pay them a visit.

She said the school administration is set to receive all visitors; especially monitors, supervisors and government officials. “We are ever ready, everything is in order at our school”, she said, adding that management has ensured that the school operates within the framework of the rules set by the ministry.

She said some people might get glittery or visibly trembling on seeing government officials paying them an unannounced visit; especially if there is cobweb in their cupboard.

According to her, their teachers are always on the mode to do what they are paid for by the government of Sierra Leone.

“Instilling discipline into the pupils and ensuring that teachers are punctual, have been my drive as head of the school”, Mrs Mansaray admitted.

“That is part of his normal routine by visiting schools before going to work in the morning”, said Augustine Sankoh, Strategic Communication Analyst at the MBSSE.

In his report, he mentioned that the attendance of teachers and full time engagements of the classrooms was totally impressive. He expressed his satisfaction over the learning environment noting that the atmosphere was peaceful and there was decorum all over the place when they reached there that morning.

He expressed the need for parents to ensure that their children or wards go to school in time to avoid lateness.

Ever since his appointment as Minister, Dr. Sengeh has implored pragmatic approach towards the Free Quality Education rolled out by His Excellency, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.

Dr. Sengeh has been traversing the length and breadth of the country to have firsthand information on what obtains in the schools.

As a youthful Minister, he does not run the ministry from an arm-chair depending on reports coming from ministry officials.

One impact of the Minister’s visit is that Head Teachers and Principals don’t know when their turn will reach for the unexpected visit of Dr. Sengeh’s.
