Following this year’s International day of Older persons celebration on the Theme “ Digital Equality for all Ages” a Ninety Seven (97) year old former member of Parliament Sahr Y. Kassigbema has profusely thanked God for keeping him alive and kicking up to this time. The former Member of Parliament who was born in 1925 together with at least twelve (12) other children said he has never been hospitalised for any sickness.
He noted that one of the contributing factors for him to have live much longer and stronger is as a result of what he described as a moderate living that is he eats well especially vegetables and most times he involves himself in sporting activities which he maintained is very important for the wellbeing of human beings unlike nowadays when young people prematurely died because what they eats , drink and involved themselves in activities.
The aged former member of Parliament advised young people to stop complicating themselves by the excessive intake of alcohol which nowadays is highly responsible for the digging of the graves of the young people.
Meanwhile, it could be recalled that the International Day of Older persons is observed every year on the First of October and that the day is aimed at raising awareness on the negative impacts of population growth and the need to ensure that people grow old with dignity and consciousness about things affecting the aged.
The day further celebrates and honours the contributions older people have made in the society. Research has proven that older people have made huge contributions to the society through voluntarism by imparting knowledge and experience. They also help family members with caring responsibilities.
