Magistrate Sahr Kekura has of last weekend sentenced the accuse person Joseph Conteh who pleaded guilty on three court charges of transfer of ammunition to Sierra Leone without a valid license.
Magistrate Keikura in given his ruling said having pleaded guilty and taken into consideration that the accused person is a first time offender, he didn’t waste the time of the court the accused person is fined the sum of three million Leones or two years imprisonment in the male correctional center in Freetown and ordered that the exhibits A1-20 be forfeited to the state.
According to the particulars of offence on Thursday 23rd September 2021 at the Gbalamuya police post check point Kambia the Northern Region in the Republic of Sierra Leone transferred to Sierra Leone five hundred (500) live rounds cartridges, (12) twelve Calibro, (32) thirty two Gram of carma Mali. Shot gun cartridges without a valid license or lawful Authority and reasonable excuse.
Prosecution witness number one Sergeant 1516 Abu Conteh attached at the organized crime writers unit Criminal Investigation Department CID headquarters Pademba Road Freetown said his duties includes to ensure the safe keeping of all exhibits brought to the office relating to matters that have been investigated in the office to produce such evidence in court.
The witness said on the 30th September 2021 whiles on duty at the said office Detective police constable 1098 A.S Amara attached to the major incident unit CID headquarters handed over to him one cartoon containing twenty (20) small boxes and each of this box contains twenty five (25) pieces of short gun cartridges and he took possession of the said exhibit registered it in the court exhibit book against serial number 206/2021. Since then it has been in the custody of the police and the said exhibit was produced and tendered as exhibit A1-20.ASP Aminatu Daboh prosecuted the matter.
