SIERRA LEONE SETTLE TO A DRAW AGAINST SOUTH SUDAN

Sierra Leone Senior National team Leone Stars has Wednesday 6th October 2021 settle to a (1-1) draw against South Sudan in Morocco at the EL Jadida Stadium in international friendly encounter.

Sullay Kaikai goal in the 40th minutes in the first half put Sierra Leone ahead as they went for a break, and upon their return to the second half Leone Stars push hard for more goals but the team was not clinical as most chances where not converted to goal.

While the South Sudan team fought hard in the second half to see how best they can get a goal and that came in the 93rd minutes of play through a free kick from 35 yard from goal and the defense wall of Leone Stars cannot hold as their opponent got a replied.

Sierra Leone has two more matches to play on 9th they will play against the Gambia and on the 12th October 2021 they face Morocco in a crunch tie. These are the second matches of the Sierra Leone Senior National team preparations ahead the Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Cameroon Yaoundé in January 2022.

For Sierra Leone and South Sudan this is their first meeting between both Nations in an international friendly encounter.

The Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Finance supported the National team Leone Stars with 6 billion Leones five hundred forty-three million Leones to help the team with accommodations, feeding and air ticket.

According to the head coach of Leone Stars John Keister before their departure said it is not about the results but to test the player’s physical fitness for AFCON. Most Players who played against South Sudan are foreign based players, and that the technical team is looking forward to challenge to qualify to the second stage in group E. Leone Star is alongside Algeria, Ivory Coast, and Guinea-Bissau. 

However, the goal scorer Sullay Kaikai has played for Crystal Palace, Blackpool and currently playing for Wycombe Wanders in England.
