DISABLE GENDER DESK OFFICER AT KONO DISTRICT COUNCIL VOWS TO END STREET BEGGING

 The disable Gender Desk Officer at the Kono District Council has promised to make street begging the thing of the past among disables in Kono District.

Victoria Christiana Finda Bockarie made the statement in a meeting with more than twenty (20) disable representatives from the different disable camps in Kono District held at the Kono District Council conference hall D.O. Barracks in Koidu City.

According to her since she assumed office as the disable Gender desk officer, she has worked tirelessly with the available like-minded organizations in the bid to improve the lives of her colleague disables in the municipality of Koidu and the district as a whole.

 She pointed out that some of  her  interventions over the years include: The  provision of safe  drinking water, food, educational support  to physically challenged school going children and the construction of an accommodation for her colleagues to name but a few.

As food is paramount for people  living with disabilities, Miss. Bockarie  intimated  her colleague disables  that another  provision of food and financial support to the different disable camps  in the City of Koidu has begun some couple of weeks ago noting that  all  her  interventions are aimed at minimizing  the spate  of street begging  among  disables both in the municipality of Koidu and Kono District as a whole.

She maintained that plans are under way for her office and its partners to address major felt needs of the physically challenged in the district. The Disable Gender Desk office at the Kono District Council thanked the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and children’s Affairs, IRC and Kono District Council for supporting her office and she further appealed to all categories of disables in the district to be united for the general benefit of them living with disabilities.
