‘More is expected from President Bio on Women’s Empowerment’ Gender activist demands

The Director of Voice for the Voiceless Women (VVW), Regiana Kombe Kajue has commended President Julius Maada Bio for his strives  taken in ensuring the empowerment of women in the country but more is expected from him when it comes to the actualization of the thirty percent quota recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).

Speaking to A-Z Newspaper in an exclusive interview in Bo, Madam Kajue said that they are happy that President Bio’s cabinet approves the gender bill that has now been taken to parliament, which according to her is a step in the direction.

“We have been marginalized for quite a long time and the men are failing to understand that what men women can do it better. So, let us be given the space to contribute meaningfully towards the development of the country,” she said.

According to Madam Kajue, her organization is really advocating for women’s empowerment as some of the women are voiceless and marginalized in the society, adding that she is also advocating for girls to ensure that they the sexual and gender base violence that they going through should be drastically reduced in the country.

She added that more laws to favor women should be enacted so that they will have the safe space for their voices to be amplified on the governance of the state, whiles adding that women should occupy positions of trust and the men should allow us to contribute to nation building.

Madam Kajue stated that when it comes to elections, women should be allowed to be a Councilor, Chairperson, Mayor, Member of Parliament and even President, adding that more women should be heads of Ministry, Department and Agency (MDA) in the country.
