SLCA Releases Final list of Women Cricketers Ahead ICC QUALIFIERS

The Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) has released the names of female Cricketers ahead of the ICC qualifiers that is set to take place in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, will see all runs for the top in September, but domineeringly different will be the lusty hope of the Sierra Leonean ladies who aim at forcing their way to lofty height in alien soil.

According to Sarah Johnson the head coach of the Sierra Leone female Cricket, said that the technical team was able to bring together these 14 Cricketers from the national league organized by the association, and a total of 14 Cricketers are set to represent the Country.

“Am much certified with the Cricketers selected and am much convince that they make the nation proud by qualifying to the Women’s Cricketers World qualifiers,” she said.

With the final squad named, Coach Sarah Johnson hope to penetrate through the competitive walls and conquer new lands to listen to the reverberation of novel songs on familiar drums as the NWACC gold title is just one.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier will be hosted by the ICC Africa Regional Office and the tournament will be played under 20 over format with two groups of 6 and 5, rounds.

The top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier to be held in 2022.

Eleven countries will take part in the tournament as follows: 1. Botswana 2. Cameroon 3. Eswatini 4. Mozambique 5. Namibia 6. Nigeria 7. Rwanda 8. Sierra Leone 9. Tanzania 10. Uganda 11. Zimbabwe.

Group A includes host Botswana, Eswatini, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. Group B includes Cameroon, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda. Two grounds in Gaborone shall be used to host the tournament.

 The participating countries are expected to arrive on Tuesday 7th September, 2021. Wednesday 8th September will be Captains’ Shoot.

There will be practice sessions for each team on 8th September and every day that a team is not playing a match. Botswana Cricket Oval will be used for practice with the teams rotating between morning sessions from 8:30am to 10:30am, midday sessions from 12:30pm to 2:30pm and afternoon sessions from 3pm to 5pm. The practice schedule will be included as part of the handbook and will be distributed to teams on arrival.

The Tournament itself will start on 9th September, 2021.  Teams that do not qualify for the semi-finals in Group B will depart on Wednesday 15th September 2021. Teams that do not qualify for semi-finals in Group A will depart on Friday 17th September. The departure date will be 20th September for teams that qualify for the knockout stages.

The Sierra Leone contingent is expected to depart the shores of Freetown on September 1, 2021 to acclimatize with the weather on the foreign soil and to set for pre-tournament warm-up series.
