Some communities in the municipality of Koidu are reported to be overwhelmed with flood. The said communities include: Kissi Bona off main Kainkordu Road in Koidu city, Sofidu, Sand Sand, Konomanyi Lorry Park, Jamma Mosque area and Gbense Market among many others. Residents of the aforementioned communities told our correspondent that at any time when there is a heavy down pour of rain, the highlighted communities over flow with water.
The residents of the above named communities noted that over the years, they have lost house hold materials worth millions of Leones because whenever there is a heavy down pour of rain, water do over flow in the market places and dwelling houses thereby destroying all their properties or belongings.
Some of the worst communities for the reported overflow of water whenever there is a heavy downpour of rain is the Gbense Market at the back of the Konomanyi lorry park which after any heavy downpour people find it very difficult to access with motor bikes and vehicles except that people have to merely undress themselves whilst accessing the two places.
The said over flowing of water at the aforesaid communities after any heavy downpour of rain has not only gotten worse with accessibility but also health implications as the polluted over flow of the water especially in the dwelling houses and the Gbense market where food stuff are bought are badly affected. Residents of those communities have called on the concern authorities to come to their aid before the places are flooded which may not only affect accessibility but also the loss of lives as the reported places or communities are meant for business and dwelling purposes.
Meanwhile, efforts by our Kono District correspondent to contact the Koidu New sembehun city council on the said issue proved futile as audience was not given to our correspondent on the matter up to press time.
