Life has become cruel to persons living with disabilities in Kono District, as they find it difficult to earn their daily survival amidst the covid-19 pandemic and raining season.
This is according to the Kono District Chairman Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues (SLUDI), Komba Charles Kapuwa. He made the pronouncement in an interview with A-Z on the present status of the Union’s office and membership in the district.
SLUDI Kono District chairman, Charles Kapuwa further maintained that, they are currently faced with food insufficiency in the district, which he said has led to the increasing number of people living with disabilities begging in the streets of Koidu city and Kono District in general on daily basis, a situation Mr Kapuwa referred to as unfortunate and threat to their existence.
While commending the central government through the line ministries, humanitarian organizations and philanthropists for providing some of his members food supports among other things during the deadly covid-19 pandemic in Sierra Leone.
Komba Charles Kapuwa appealed to all and sundry to promptly come to their aid in addressing the present food insufficiency they are faced with before it could go out of hands.
As he puts it, an empty bag cannot stand.
On the current status of SLUDI office in Kono District, Chairman Komba Charles Kapuwa said, the office lacks electricity facility, mobility, stationery, security and running cost for its smooth operations.
Meanwhile, he thanked the Koidu New Sembehun City Council and Handicap international managements for providing for them furniture and other supports few years ago and appealed for their continual supports.
