The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has commenced a comprehensive traffic management training program at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, targeting over 270 traffic personnel. The training, which kicked off on January 20, 2025, aims to equip participants with the latest knowledge and tools to tackle the complexities of modern traffic management and road safety in urban areas.

In his keynote address, Director of Training, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sahr Y. Senesi, emphasised that the training is not just an opportunity for professional development but a chance to reinforce shared values of responsibility, resilience, and respect for human life. He noted that the training will cover a range of essential topics, including advanced traffic law enforcement techniques, accident investigation protocols, and community engagements.

AIG Senesi highlighted the importance of collaboration and sharing experiences among police officers from diverse backgrounds, stating that their work extends beyond enforcement to education and public awareness. He reminded participants that each interaction with the community is an opportunity to promote safe driving practices and that they are ambassadors of safety, who must lead by example.

The Director of Training also acknowledged the efforts of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Management Board of the SLP in supporting the training, as well as the dedication of the traffic team, led by the Director of Traffic, in making the training a reality.

National Traffic Coordinator, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alimany Koroma, represented the Director of Traffic Management and thanked the IGP and the Executive Management Board of the SLP for the training initiative. He noted that professionalism is key in executing traffic duties and that knowledge gained from the training will be cascaded to others who were not fortunate enough to attend.

The training program is segmented into batches, aiming to strategically position the SLP for modern policing as it transitions from a force to a service. The climax of the opening session was a group photo of participants.

The SLP Media Team was present to cover the event, which marks a significant step towards enhancing traffic management and road safety in Sierra Leone.
