A 22-year-old unemployed man, Sinneh Dumbuya, has made another appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on a charge of larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly committed the offense on Saturday, January 2, 2026, at No. 2 Rock Lane, Brookfields, Freetown. He is accused of stealing one cooking pot, two large bowls, and two iron window frames, all valued at Le4,300 (four thousand three hundred leones), property of Nafisatu Conteh.
When the charge was read and explained to him, no plea was taken.
Police Prosecutor No. 18235 K.K. Thoronka led Detective Police Inspector John Mumunah Simpeh Kamara, who is attached to the New England Ville Police Station. In his testimony, the witness stated that he recognized the accused and recalled that on January 20, 2026, while on night duty, the accused was arrested and brought to the station by one Raymond S. Bangura. Bangura reportedly informed the police that he had caught the accused stealing the items from the said address.
Statements were subsequently obtained from the complainant and other witnesses. These statements, which had been in police custody, were produced and tendered in court as Exhibits A1-A2 and B1-B3.
On January 25, 2026, an immediate caution statement was obtained from the accused. He was cautioned and questioned in Krio, and his statement was recorded in English. At the conclusion of the interview, he confirmed that the statement was true and correct by affixing his right-hand thumbprint. The statement was witnessed by Detective Sergeant 10783 Nyallay Abdulia Mustapha and recorded by Detective Kamara. It was produced in court as part of the case record.
On the same date, the accused was formally interviewed and charged with the offense of larceny following the same procedure.
The accused, who was unrepresented, declined to cross-examine the witness.
Magistrate Fornah ordered that the accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility and adjourned the matter to Monday, March 9, 2026, for further hearing.
