In a recent session at the Sefadu Magistrate Court in Koidu City, Kono District, two significant legal proceedings unfolded under the gavel of Magistrate Joseph Toby.
Sia Lebbie, a 22-year-old pupil hailing from Sukudu community in Koidu City, found herself remanded at the female Sefadu Correctional Centre on charges of unlawful possession, as per section 48(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act 2001. The allegations against her stem from an incident that occurred on Thursday, February 8th, 2024, at the Tankoro Police Station, Koidu City, within the Tankoro Chiefdom of Sierra Leone’s Eastern Province.
According to the particulars of the offence, Lebbie was accused of attempting to deliver contraband to a suspect in police custody. The items discovered in her possession included twenty parcels of cannabis sativa, two parcels of kush, a packet of tramadol tablets, and two dorco razor blades—all without lawful authority. During her appearance in court, Lebbie claimed that she had been coerced by suspects to traffic the aforementioned drugs into the police cells.
In an unexpected turn of events during the court session, Ibrahim Fofanah faced the consequences of his actions as Magistrate Toby sentenced him to twelve months imprisonment for fraudulent conversion, in violation of section 20(1)(lv)(a) of the Larceny Act 1916. Though details surrounding Fofanah’s case were not provided, the outcome underscores the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice within the community.
The prosecution for Ibrahim Fofanah’s case was led by Kamara M. (Identification number: 13589), while the matter concerning Sia Lebbie was adjourned to Monday, February 12th, 2024, for further legal proceedings.
These developments serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in Koidu City, as the judicial system continues to address cases of unlawful conduct with diligence and impartiality.
