The newly appointed Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centers in every district across Sierra Leone. This initiative forms a central part of his three-year vision to empower young people through entrepreneurship, skills development, and innovation.

Speaking at the government’s weekly press briefing on May 20, 2025, held at the Miatta Conference Center, Youyi Building in Freetown, Minister Sannoh introduced his strategy under the theme “Youth in Entrepreneurship.” The focus, he said, is to equip young people with the tools to become self-reliant and economically productive.

The minister emphasized that his roadmap is anchored on the National Youth Policy and the Status of Youth Report, both of which are currently under review by a steering committee. Public engagement and feedback sessions will follow, he added.

Sannoh’s vision is structured around four key pillars: agriculture, climate change, skills development, and the rollout of TVET centers nationwide. In the agricultural sector, he aims to make farming more appealing to young people by integrating technology and providing business-oriented training along with startup support.

He also pledged targeted funding for youth-led climate initiatives and described skill development as the most effective tool in combating poverty. To ensure career guidance, he promised the appointment of course counselors in universities who will assist students in making informed career choices.

A notable highlight of his plan is the transformation of the existing *Car Wash Program into a vocational and skills training hub. This move, he said, reflects his commitment to upgrading and sustaining youth development projects.

Additionally, Sannoh announced the launch of Chiefdom Youth Farms, where land will be provided free of charge in partnership with local authorities. He also revealed plans to expand youth access to agricultural inputs through the MAFFS Project.

Importantly, the minister emphasized inclusivity, stating that 70% of opportunities under his initiatives will be reserved for young women and 5% for persons with disabilities, ensuring equal participation in national development.

In conclusion, Minister Sannoh reaffirmed his dedication to transforming youth-focused initiatives, including the legacy Car Wash Program, into sustainable vocational platforms laying a foundation for long-term opportunities for Sierra Leone’s youth.
