In an ongoing case of housebreaking and larceny, Steven Jacob Amara, a 23-year-old, has been arraigned before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No. 2 on one count of housebreaking and larceny, contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at No. 12 FAO Drive, Crab Town, Aberdeen, Freetown, the accused allegedly broke into the house of Emmanuel Adeyemi Shaw with the intent to steal. It is further alleged that he stole various items, including:
Three bundles of DVC Ceiling Sheets, each valued at 1,300 Leones (totaling 3,900 Leones). Two 3-foot 6-inch foam mattresses, each valued at 6,682.5 Leones (totaling 13,365 Leones). Five cartons of floor tiles, each valued at 400 Leones (totaling 2,000 Leones). One EDSA meter, valued at 3,000 Leones.
The total value of the stolen items is 22,265 Leones, all property of Emmanuel Adeyemi Shaw, while in the custody of Abdul Amidu Koroma.
When the charge was read, the accused did not enter a plea.
State Prosecutor Sergeant 8811 Florence M. Wilson stated that she had completed her case, and the file was withdrawn for ruling.
The accused was not legally represented before his committal to the High Court.
In his ruling, Magistrate Bangura stated that, after carefully reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, he was satisfied that a prima facie case had been established. Therefore, the accused was committed to stand trial at the High Court.
Magistrate Bangura also granted the accused bail in the amount of Le 30,000.00, with two sureties in like sum, who must be responsible citizens residing in Freetown. The bail conditions are to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The case has been adjourned as the accused is set to provide his deposition at the High Court.
